Providing sms based messages to pregnant women in order to improve Clinic visit appointments

Launched: September 2016

Each year 140,000 people in developed worlds for example UK, die in situations where first aid could have helped save their lives; what more of the number in our less developed nation Cameroon having a mediocre health care system. Poor access to information on prevention practices and healthy lifestyles for mothers thus contributing to the high infant mortality rates in Cameroon; 53.43 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2015. And an inherent need for improved healthcare delivery services.

Our inspiration to provide such a solution comes from the above shortcomings in our health sector, an increasing penetration of mobile phones to  most rural areas thus more people benefitting from the messages and the great potential of information technology (IT) to achieve development in the healthcare sector which we are exploiting so.

At the heart of our solution is a vision of improving the quality of health information, strengthening national health systems and ensuring accessible, high-quality health care for all.

Launched in September 2016, Maealth's Antenatal reminder service (Mobile Midwife) has over 150 registered pregnant women from only 3 rural clinics and counting. It has the potential to scale nation wide in a very short time.

Maealth is running a local deployment of RapidPro to provide this service.
